Now in its 11th year of celebrating the joys of the Winter season, the Hancock Winter Festival will be held on Saturday, February 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Widmeyer Park. As in years past, a variety of seasonal activities will be offered to festival visitors. Sponsored by the Hancock Arts Council, the event will offer ice blocks for ice carving and a live auction by Dave Smith of special items and gifts donated by area merchants. The main event is the Snow Sculpture Contest open to individuals, families and groups. A Hat Contest encourages visitors to use their creativity and expression and wear their special millinery masterpieces to compete in the event. Supplies are on hand at the Hancock Library located in the park. Contests are open to all ages, and prizes will be awarded. There will be live music by Michael Kligerman. Other attractions include a cake walk, and hot food and beverages will be for sale to warm hearts and hands in the brisk February air. The snow is being donated by White Tail Resort. Arts Council Chairperson Sinclair Hamilton says that attendance at the festival has brought visitors from numerous parts of the four-state region. Proceeds from the event will benefit future programs of the Arts Council.
